Why Reddwerks?

Reddwerks has the experience and diversity to help your company reach its distribution goals. Our comprehensive knowledge of distribution centers is built upon our experience successfully working with five of the top ten retailers in the U.S. Our teams, from QA analysts and development engineers to sales managers, have firsthand experience working in the multiple roles of a distribution center, such as floor workers, supervisors, managers, regional VPs, and even truck drivers.

At Reddwerks, we assure the quality of our product and its implementation. Our QA department is tightly integrated into the development process, which allows us to ensure quality: beginning in the requirement gathering stage; through rigorous integration, regression, smoke, and UAT testing; and all the way to the successful implementation of the product. Each of our departments is represented on site during implementation, including deployment and training. We stay until it's right!

Reddwerks’ comprehensive offerings include simulation services. Our operations research team can show you what will work, what won’t, and most importantly, why. This takes the guesswork out of system design, and allows you to depend on math, algorithms, and reproducible results when setting up your facility.

About Us

Reddwerks Corporation was formed more than eight years ago by a group of individuals who saw that the supply chain industry was sorely lacking a single solution for managing all the order fulfillment needs within a distribution facility.

Today, Reddwerks provides the only event-driven, single-platform warehouse controls and warehouse management solution for managing your entire order fulfillment process, conveyor sensor through shipping management.

Our solution allows you to view and audit your inventory, orders, labor, and equipment in real time.

Some things you might not know about us:

  • We have a dedicated operations research team that utilizes advanced mathematics and simulation models to help our customers optimize workflows and achieve the highest possible levels of productivity.
  • Our customers include five of the largest US-based retailers, accounting for $630 billion in sales.
  • The majority of the company’s funding has gone to research and development to perfect our product for our customers—not marketing fluff.
  • Our team members have over 200 years of combined experience in logistics, computer science, operations research, and enterprise software.
  • We send our design, development, QA, support, installation, training, and services teams onsite for every customer implementation.
  • We are a diversified company. We constantly explore new technologies, such as our advanced pick-to-light offering. At the same time, we continue to maintain obsolete technology, such as our ability to repair other vendors' hardware.

Reddwerks® launches 4th-generation WMS & WCS software at ProMat/Chicago

Reddwerks v4.0 seamlessly integrates new “Distribution ScienceTM” methodology, redefining what “best-of-breed” productivity means for the largest “Tier 1” distribution users in the world.

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Reddwerks Corporation, today, launches our new 4th-generation warehouse software. Reddwerks v4.0 is comprised of a full suite of warehouse management (WMS), warehouse controls (WCS), and conveyor controls (CCS) modules.

Deploying Reddwerks v4.0 starts with our systematic, mathematical, and science-based analysis of customers’ needs, which we call “Distribution Science.” We analyze a customer’s order profiles and map them onto “data models,” all written in Java, which optimize the physical and logical constraints of a customer’s operations on a facility-by-facility basis. The state-of-the-art algorithms we develop are then deployed in our Reddwerks v4.0 software to increase labor and equipment utilization while eliminating congestion and starvation issues.

First the science, then the software. Our Reddwerks v4.0 WMS and WCS modules may be deployed to run and manage a department-level workflow or an entire facility, from integration with a customer’s ERP system down to the controls running on PLCs that drive conveyors, sorters, and other material handling equipment. From science to software, our rigorous “Distribution Science” approach affords customers precise payback and ROI data – we call this our “payback playbook.”

“Just like football coaches break down plays on film to improve team execution and develop new strategies, our Reddwerks team uses “Distribution Science” to break down distribution operations and develop new ways to save money,” said Jean Bélanger, Founder/CEO of Reddwerks. “Our “payback playbooks” show precise savings and throughput measures – no more guessing. Our Reddwerks v4.0 software’s new planning and execution capabilities deliver on the improvements we uncover. We do not drop the financial ball when implementing departmental workflows or optimizing an entire building.”

Reddwerks is used by many of the largest companies in the world. Our list of customers includes four of the top ten retailers in the US, the largest distributor to convenience stores, and one of the largest parcel and logistics companies in the world. Our “Distribution Science” and Reddwerks software have been used to analyze and deploy new solutions in over 60 facilities across the US and Canada.

Some of our notable successes include:

-  Saving $2M annually in a single 505,000 square foot facility, in which shipping included reverse, truck-stop logistics. This customer had a 10-year old WCS that needed replacing. We addressed their service level requirements and deployed our Reddwerks v4.0 software, transforming their simple, rules-based wave-planning engine into an auto-profiling and dynamic waving engine, reducing daily waves by 20-30%. This led to a 40% reduction in labor costs and a 30% increase in sorter throughput.

-  Identifying annual savings of $2.7M for one of the world’s largest retailers by deploying a new, low-cost batch pick-to-put (goods-to-person) infrastructure, transforming their store fulfillment operations. Multi-facing put stations and specialized batching algorithms ensured that the right material was being processed upstream to maintain labor utilization targets. The result was a 30% reduction in labor costs and added capacity for their e-commerce business.

Reddwerks v4.0 software is the result of a three-year, R&D program that involved working with some of the largest users in the world. There are a number of ground-breaking advances packaged in this important release, including:

-  A new execution layer for labor assignments that runs hundreds of thousands of calculations per hour to ensure that labor is being tasked with the highest priority and the highest impact assignments throughout the day. We can sense when equipment and labor utilization levels are falling and then adjust distribution plans to bring operations back on target. We can automatically move associates from a low utilization area to an area where they can make the largest impact on operations. Assignments and labor moves are fully tracked, and they can be integrated into any third-party LMS reporting tool.

- A new configuration and business rules framework – “Device Space Java Edition” – that moves conveyor modeling, simulation, and execution layer into a 100% cross-platform environment. “Device Space Java Edition” uses both a configuration and a business-rules framework to quickly map and control any high-speed sorter, zone-divert sorter, merge, pre-sort, buffer, or any other specialized mechanized equipment. We include a full simulation layer for improved testing and deployment strategies.

About Reddwerks:

Reddwerks develops and sells WMS, WCS, and CCS software for some of the largest users in the world, including four of the top ten retailers in the US, the largest distributor to convenience stores, and one of the largest parcel and logistics companies. Deploying Reddwerks v4.0 starts with our systematic, mathematical, and science-based analysis of customers’ needs, we call “Distribution Science.” Headquartered in Austin, TX, our software has been deployed in more than 60 high-volume distribution centers throughout North America.

Reddwerks Name

We are often asked about our corporate name. Did we misspell red? Were we just trying to be different? In fact, the word redd has had a long and colorful history. While redd has fallen out of use today, it dates back to the 15th century and the beginnings of the great Renaissance in Europe, in which it meant to put right, to clear a path.

We believe a similar renaissance has begun in logistics, brought on by powerful, new software and low-cost technologies. Our corporate mission is to be at the forefront of this renaissance by helping our clients "put right" their business and help them "clear a path" to their performance goals. With our innovative spirit, industry knowledge, highly trained teams, and market timing, we can create for you a new style of facility that is defined by its improved accuracy, performance, flexibility, transparency, agility, and order-filling technologies.

Lower Labor Costs

A top cosmetic company faced growth, yet their order processing system couldn't keep up. Their only option was to add shifts, which raised their labor costs. After switching to the Reddwerks software suite, they were able to scale back to a single shift while becoming three times more productive.

This was due to Reddwerks' mirrored product locations and dynamic order routing. The company's old system was unable to handle late arriving stock. They were forced to wait until the next day to complete these orders. With Reddwerks' waveless, real-time processing, they could slot their product in real-time. This allowed the company to be active for each new order inducted into the system, massively reducing shorts and back orders.

In addition, our product helped them save large amounts on shipping costs while improving their customer satisfaction.

Lower Shipping Costs

A direct-sales beauty care company had orders ranging in size, and a high quantity of individual shipments. They needed to find a way to lower their shipping costs.

The Reddwerks software suite provided multiple solutions for their problems. Reddwerks' cubing algorithm selects the smallest sized box for each order. This reduced the shipping size and wasted packing materials used for orders. Our Pick-to-Light application helped them increase their pick rates, which led to orders being filled faster. This significantly reduced the number of overnight and priority shipments they had to send. The Reddwerks QC functionality helped the company increase their accuracy rate from 85% to more than 98%. This reduced the amount of returns and reshipments.

Increase Accuracy

A large clothing manufacturer wanted to improve their accuracy rate. Costs were rising due to an increasing number of client charge backs. Each error was driving up costs due to rushed shipping charges for replacements and returns processing.

After integrating the solutions available in the Reddwerks software suite, they saw immediate improvements. Over the next few months their accuracy rate rose to 99.8%, a 2% increase. This led to a significant reduction in their order processing costs.

Improve Transparency & Auditability

A grocery distributor came to Reddwerks in need of a complete solution for their order processing. They wanted to lower customer credits and labor costs. They also wanted to improve customer service levels.

After applying the solutions available in the Reddwerks software suite, they were able to achieve these results in several ways. First, they were able to route orders to QC for certain customers, stops, loads, or product types to ensure their accuracy. This was especially helpful for high value items or accounts that needed extra attention. Second, Reddwerks' data collection ensured that orders were leaving the warehouse complete. This resulted in fewer trucks and less store credits. Third, all orders were audited, down to the line item in each container. This allowed the company to easily validate order delivery, which saved on shipping time and labor.

The Reddwerks solution provided this company a real-time view of every aspect of their order processing chain. This resulted in an equally balanced material flow. In their first year alone, they were able to save 15% on labor costs. After a simple upgrade to our 3.4 solution, they were able to bump that savings up by an additional 7% per year.

Improve Material Flow

A major home improvement equipment provider was using a system that wasted the potential of its workers. The system had pickers wasting much of their time waiting on orders. They needed an efficient system that allowed workers to spend more time working.

After only 15 minutes of hands-on training with Reddwerks software, the pickers' rates vastly improved without sacrificing accuracy.

Improve Planning & Visibility

A high-end furnishing company was interested in having more automated planning, increased visibility of their order processing, and a reduced number of pick errors.

The Reddwerks software suite met all their needs by adapting to their business logic and determining their order-processing priorities. We provided them with the ability to automatically group orders based on a range of criteria, which decreased the amount of needed supervisor time and increased the order throughput by 18%.

Our software provided this company with great detail at the product level. The clarity our software gave to workers regarding items' pick locations and requested quantities reduced selecting errors by 83%. This increased order accuracy to 99.66%. The Reddwerks software suite provided their company with data on every aspect of their ordering processing system: from the wave level all the way down to individual line items. In addition, they were able to manipulate this data and put it to better use. The company was able to export the results in the file format of their choice and have the exact information they needed.
